Wood Fires

Nothing beats the atmosphere and ambience generated by a wood fire on a cold winters evening. At Fyshwick Home & Heating we specialise in the most efficient and reliable wood heaters in the marketplace. We stock a wide range of heating systems from some of Australia's biggest and most reputable suppliers.

A slow combustion wood heater is best described as an "air-tight" firebox which you can control the burning rate & intensity of the fire with some type of air-control. There are mainly three types of wood heaters which can vary in their construction detail giving you the opportunity to select what is best for you.

  1. Radiant:- This type of wood heater is "unskinned" so it radiates heat in all directions (much like a 44gal drum in the open), It is a good selection to large open plan areas along with homes which have high raking ceilings or a lot of glass.
  2. Convection:-the most available type of wood stove on the market today. The firebox is covered with another "skin" of metal allowing an air-gap between. As cold air is at ground level & hot air rises, a convection current commences to flow which in turn flow heat into the home. Suitable for "standard" homes of common design as the air circulates more easily throughout.
  3. Fan-forced:- always a convection heater but with a fan attached to assist the convection airflow. Can be used with or without the fan during operation but best heat will result when fan is used as this is as how it was designed.

At Fyshwick Home & Heating we have over seven brands, 70+ heaters on display along with three working models so we can "show & tell". We can help assist with best selection to suit your needs. Our staff can help with all manner of flue systems, air-transfer kits and even water-jackets fitted to give you free hot water during the winter months!

Environmental Issues
Wood heaters are environmentally friendly!! Man has always relied on wood as a source of fuel to provide life's basics - cooking, heating and hot water - yet it was often dirty, inefficient and hazardous. Not so with today's wood heaters. Engineers and technicians have worked hard to address the environmental issues associated with wood burning systems. Manufacturers are now able to use modern technology to produce combustion systems that are both efficient and comply with the most stringent world emission standards.

Wood burning systems are a sound environmental choice because, unlike other fuels, burning wood generates no more carbon dioxide than if it were left in the forest to rot. Wood is a renewable resource, and good forest management ensures both a ready supply of fuel and enough greenery to wash carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Read more about the environmental issues associated with wood fueled heating at the Australian Home Heating Association's website.
